What to do…what to do….oh how to feel as an Arsenal fan right now? That is the question…some feel that Arsenal missed out BIG time this transfer window by not bringing in the quality players Arsenal need to win the league whereas others believe that Arsene Wenger knows what he is doing and already has the quality needed to pursue that elusive Premier League crown. It’s tough to say really and I say that because I think both sides have a good point really, I mean it would have been great to have signed a striker like Benzema, Martinez or Cavani, of course! But would we have been really happy to have spent way over the top for them? Manchester United spent a fortune on a 19 year old kid who could turn into the world’s most expensive flop! Would you be happy to have spent that much? I mean, the board coming out and saying that we had £200 Million to spend was pure stupidity, why would you come out and say something like that?! everyone knows that clubs will just raise their asking price up!
We have quality, we have great players in Sanchez, Ozil, Giroud, Walcott, Chamberlain, Coquelin, Cazorla, Cech, Gibbs, Monreal, Bellerin, Mertersacker etc you know where I’m going with this! our players are great and while it would have been fantastic to have new faces in…I wouldn’t pay over the board for them….Quality over Quantity! I believe that Wenger knows what he is doing, I mean he hasn’t been our manager for this long for nothing! However, many people have had their say on the matter…say Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher
I look at this team and always feel like saying, nearly. We are always so close to feel like we can challenge but it feels like that one piece to complete the jigsaw puzzle can never be found, like it’s fallen down the back of the sofa or something! When you remember the 2004 squad, then I can see how you might have an issue with the current squad not having players like Keown, Henry, Pires, Viera, Bergkamp etc or the 1998/1999 with Overmars, Bould, Adam, Seaman, Anelka…both squads that felt full and unbeatable whereas today…it’s more…well I think the squads of yesterday were a level above this one but I’m not blaming Wenger for that! I just think that we have gone downhill when it comes to the qualities of players that we once had…not by much but it’s noticeable! We are still close to seriously challenging for the League but not there yet! I just don’t see it….however I would love to be proven wrong! If we win then great, if we don’t then we go back to the drawing board and try again next season!
We as a club in the last decade have
- The most expensive season tickets in the Premier League!
- Have recently built a stadium!
- Have in recent years sold our best players abroad or to rivals in Premier League
- Had to suffer this awful moment
However we have also
- Won F.A Cup 2x and Community Shield 2x
- Consecutively played in the Champions League every year
- Added many great players to our ranks who have stayed
Now in 2015, with the stadium paid off, I think we should create a brand new core…a set of players to build up over the next few years that will elevate us back to the top, we have money and we have time to find the correct pieces to make that complete puzzle! Just my opinion but I want us to create The Emirates into something similar to Highbury because as of right now, I think teams feared going to Highbury a lot more than The Emirates, it was a fortress and up till 2014, The Emirates felt like a costly mistake…I never felt like it was a great move for a long time after we moved in…it just didn’t feel right to leave Highbury and start a new chapter…I’m not saying that in time, The Emirates will not become a fortress as well…it pretty much already is but not to the standards of Highbury and soon enough, Chelsea, Liverpool will have new stadiums as well…will they go through the same thing that Arsenal did and sell players for a few years afterwards? I don’t know but besides that…We have a tough season ahead and if Arsenal have a few losses then I know many Gunner fans will call for Wenger’s head…which I think would be stupid, have we not learnt anything from Man United when Ferguson retired? Be careful what you wish for!
So…Can Arsenal Do…It…My Answer Is….Yes….with a bit of luck but any injuries and it changes to No
Oh well, the show must go on!
